Where to Eat Before or After Pickleball on Nantucket
Pickleball on Nantucket isn’t just about playing hard. It’s about how you start the day, how you recover after a match, and where you stop for something real. This is a short list of spots we return to over and over again. No fluff, just what works.
Born & Bread
29 Centre Street, Nantucket, MA 02554
If you’re serious about sandwiches, this place delivers. Every time. House-made sourdough. Zero shortcuts. The Kevin, Rachel Reuben, and Avocado Club are top-tier. If you’re after bold, go Beef Boursin or the Roast Beef Panini — both big, satisfying, and balanced.
But let’s be honest: the BB Egg Sandy is a problem in the best way. Organic eggs, Vermont cheddar, Applewood smoked bacon, Sriracha mayo, vine tomato, all on their sourdough. Eat half before a game — fluffy eggs, just the right amount of bread — and save the second half for after. Clean fuel. No grease. Nothing to regret.
This summer’s newest addition? A full-service coffee counter for that much-needed extra boost.
The vibe? Bright, airy, and not trying to be anything it’s not. Born & Bread is grab-and-go, limited seating with solid people watching. You’ll wait 15–20 minutes during busy hours. Worth it. And while you’re there, you’re staring at the Jared Coffin House — not a bad place to pause. Order, hang on the side porch, or stroll town. You’ll get your food. You’ll come back.
The Sandbar at Jetties Beach
4 Bathing Beach Road, Nantucket, MA 02554
The courts are 20 steps away. So is the beach. So is a cold beer. This is the spot.
We go for the Cubano, the Wings, Fish Tacos, and the buck-a-shuck raw bar special (3–5 PM). Clams, oysters, and no sand — the shuckers know what they’re doing. You’re eating what just came out of the water, looking at the same water, feet in the sand.
This place isn’t trying to be fancy. It just delivers. Beers on tap, live music if you’re lucky, good playlists if you’re not. It’s casual, it’s local, and we’ve never left unhappy.
Hit the courts, hit the water, hit the table — all within 100 yards. That’s how you do it.
